Re: Can't log in, please help

I'm rapidly running out of ideas . . .
Run System Restore to get the system to a point in time
before this problem started. If unsure how to, click Start/
Help and look for "System Restore".

You could also do this:
- Boot up normally.
- When prompted to log on, press Ctrl+Alt+Del twice in
You should get a logon prompt with two boxes.
- Type "Administrator" in the account field and your
password (if you have one) in the password field.
===========
- Click Start / Run / cmd {OK}
- Type these commands:
net user jmac > c:\test.txt {Enter} (jmac is the new account name)
net user jmac password {Enter}
set >> c:\test.txt {Enter}
- Post the contents of c:\test.xt in your reply.

If you cannot log in as Administrator in normal mode,
run the steps below the divider line in Safe Mode.

Did it. Still have the same problem. Went in and double-checked to make
sure
I did it correctly, one program had re-checked itself or added itself in
the
Startup tab(system32/ctfmon.exe). I unchecked it, shut down completely.
Started up in normal mode. Can't get it still. I very much appreciate your
help, hope you have another suggestion!

The difference between "Safe Mode" and "Normal Mode" is
the number of programs that get loaded at boot time. I am
beginning to suspect that one of them is causing you problems,
perhaps a rogue program. I would now do this:
1. Physically disconnect the machine from the Internet.
2. Boot up in Safe Mode.
3. Click Start / Run / msconfig.exe {OK}.
4. Click the Startup tab.
5. Untick each and every tick box.
6. Click the Services tab.
7. Tick the box that hides Microsoft services.
8. Untick the remaining boxes.
9. Reboot in Normal Mode.
Report the result in your reply.

I did what you suggested. I can't get in still. I can get in to all
the
accounts (Administrator, my old one & my new one) when in Safe Mode.
But
can't get in the regular way. All my info is out there when I log in
via
Safe
Mode, so I don't see that my hard drive could be dead as someone else
suggested.

I was thinking something was corrupted also, am now leaning toward
something
in one of the things that Windows is loading when not in Safe Mode,
but I
don't have any idea how to figure that out.

Any other suggestions? If the problem is something Windows is loading
then
deleting User Accounts altogether probably isn't going to solve the
problem
either.

I fired up the system and all of a sudden when I try to log into
my
user
account I get the message "system cannot log you on now because
the
domain
<my domain name> is not available."

I am able to get into the system by hitting F8 while it starts up
&
going
in
under safe mode, signing in under Admin.

I tried changing the password to my account, didn't help any.

I thought I'd just delete the need for a user name but can't
figure
out
how
to do it and I'm not sure that would solve the problem, might make
it
worse.

I ran a checkdisk in dos mode, says there's some errors but can't
discover
what they might be.

I'm Windows XP Home, latest and greatest.

I was going to go back and install older check point but somehow
that's
been
turned off so I don't have an older version to go back to.

I tried re-installing Windows XP, but it bombs right at the end.

Any suggestions?

While I agree with other respondents that this message should
never appear on a WinXP Home box, reloading Windows is
probably a litte premature. Your problem might be caused by
a corrupted profile. Log in as Administrator and create a new
account. Now log on under this new account. Does the problem
persist? If not then it's probably possible to transfer your old
settings to the new account.
