Double check your settings just in case you hit the Cancel button instead of
Apply or OK. We have all made that mistake.

1. Right-click the program you want to start as a taskbar button.
2. Click Properties, and then click the Shortcut tab.
3. In the Run list, click Minimized if you want the program to open as a
taskbar button.
Sorry I said it wrong. I did do the programs. What I meant was I put them
in the startup folder in the start menu than selected the proprieties in
both the Startup and desktop Programs.
Sorry.

You have to do this to the program shortcuts, not the folders.
Have a good day,
Run:
[[Specifies how you want the window to display this item when you open
the shortcut: in a standard window, in a full screen (maximized), or as
a button on the taskbar (minimized).]]
If they run in the background, generally those items are running as a
service.
That’s because most of these processes – including most services – run
in a hidden window. This is how Task Manager determines the processes
that appear on the Applications tab. If you can see the window in which
the process is running, then it shows up as an application. If you
can’t see the window, then it doesn’t show up as an application.

Hi,
I selected Minimize in Properties in both the Startup Folder and on my
Desktop and yet SOME of the programs still startup as Maximize. They are:
Forte Agent Version 4.0/32.1071, IE 6.0 and Windows Explorer. How do I
correct this?
I am using HP OEM Windows XP Media Center, 2005 Edition and I have
Three startup folders with programs in them.:
In my startup folder C:\Documents and Settings\HP_Administrator\Start
Menu\Programs\Startup.
I have just IExplore.exe and Norton System Doctor
In my startup folder: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start
Menu\Programs\Startup
I have Agent 4.0 , MS Office, Windows Explorer, Updates from HP and WD
Backup Monitor.
In my startup Folder: C:\Documents and Settings\Default User\Start
Menu\Programs\Startup
I have: Pin (Don't even know what that is?)
With the exception of those three they all either go to the little icons
on the right of the Task Bar NOT Quick Launch on the left or run in the
background.
The MS Office (Word 2000) does not seem to be running but I have three
different versions,2000,2003 and Beta 2007.
Have a good day,
