Windows Explorer crashes when "Search" is selected

Tech-Archive recommends: Speed Up your PC by fixing your registry

Hello. Windows Explorer always crashes whenever I try to use 'search'.
The following messages come up:-

**
The instruction at "0x04cf2d9c" referenced memory at ")x)4f01a1c". The
memory could not be "read".

Click on OK to terminate the program
Click on CANCEL to debug the program
**

If I press OK or CANCEL I get an error message like

Runtime error 216 at 00002D9C

The only way out is CTRL-ALT-DEL and terminate Explorer and the Error
Messages.

I'm using XP sp2. And this has happened for a long time so I can't
trach down any software which might be causing this.

Anyone have ant ideas what's wrong and how I can fix it. Thanks.

David
