You can use the Files and Settings Transfer Wizard in Windows XP to
backup your user data. See the article Files and Settings Transfer

The way I normally do this is to create a folder named \Transfer on
the backup drive and tell FASTW to save its data file there.

Before you do this you should clean up your computer a bit by dumping
the TEMP and Temporary Internet Files.
