Hi all,

I'm running Windows XP on my Toshiba laptop and on many occasions, I
failed to shut down my system. After clicking "Shut Down" from the
menu, only a handful of processes are shutdown (as seen after pressing
Ctrl + Alt + Del). I have to manually shut it down by holding down on
the power button. I really hope you people who are well-versed in this
to help me resolve my problem.

Thanking you all in advance.

In addition to the good advice to use Jim Eshelman's shutdown
troubleshooter, did you optimize/clean up your Toshiba after receiving it?
While all the big computer mftrs. (Dell, HP, Sony, etc.) do this, IMO
Toshiba wins the prize for loading up their laptops with the most OEM cr*p
- trial versions, unnecessary software updaters, programs you don't use but
which are installed and have services running (like AOL). Optimizing these
OEM laptops makes a huge difference in their performance.

And of course, you need to make sure your computer is virus/malware-free:

If the procedures look too complex - and there is no shame in admitting this
isn't your cup of tea - take the machine to a professional computer repair
shop (not your local version of BigStoreUSA).
