Well, it beats me.
Did you reboot after deleting FNTCACHE.DAT?
One fellow found out that in
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Fonts
there were some entries, in incorrect format...he deleted them and now IT'S
WORKING!
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Fonts
is where the list of fonts is stored.
I don't know if the fellow above meant that the Value Name did not match the
Value Data or what. I.e. Arial (TrueType) & ARIAL.TTF
All should be REG_SZ (String Value) Data Types.
I looked around a little on Google for enStep Incorporated, Version: Altsys
Metamorphisis fonts. I could find where to download but couldn't find out
of they were *.ttf or not and I wasn't going to download them to find out.

Yes they did. Strange, isn't it.

All the fonts in question are from enStep Incorporated, Version: Altsys
Metamorphisis:
CAMPBELL
ABIGAIL
CLARENCE
ELEGANCE
FELIZ
GENUINE
HANA
HUNTSON
IRIS
MARKETPRO
MAXIMO
PAINTSTROKE
I did double check, and I already had the Show Only TrueType fonts
unchecked.f

Victoria, what font are you talking about?
I don't believe that Read-only has anything to do with it.
For example, Bradley Hand ITC has RA attributes and it shows as a font
choice in Display Properties | Appearance tab | Advanced button |
Items
Try this.
Start | Run | Type: fonts | Click OK |
Tools | Folder Options | TrueType Fonts tab |
UNCheck: Show only TrueType fonts in my programs on my computer
Supposedly, All installed fonts can be used.
Supposedly, You must restart the computer before these changes take
effect.
You can use any TrueType font that is installed in Microsoft Windows
with your Office programs.
OpenType, TrueType, Type 1, and raster fonts.
BTW, this is what TweakUI | Repair font folder fixes...

Thanks. I know I'm probably spending too much time on this, but I
hate it when the computer is teasing me. Is there a glitch or is it
user ignorance?
Problem: Got new computer at work. Tried to load my saved Desktop
Themes. I noticed the fonts weren't right.....
Actions:
1) Dragged old fonts from backup into Fonts folder to "Install". The
fonts appeared in my Office programs, but not in the Display
properties.
2) Deleted fonts installed in Step 1 and installed old fonts using
the File, Install Fonts method. Rebooted computer. Same problem.
3) Deleted FNTCACHE.DAT from System 32 folder. Rebooted. Same
problem.
4) Discovered that if I type the name of the font I want into the
dialog box for say, Icons, it does accept the font, but still won't
display it in the properties once I leave and return.
5) Downloaded Tweak UI. (really cool, by the way) and ran the Font
Repair. Rebooted. Same problem.
Should I stop wasting my time because the fonts will NEVER appear in
the list because they are "Read-only"?

These attributes apply to all files, not just font files.

Repair font folder
Restores the functionality of the Font folder. Repair the font folder
when you find that the Font folder has begun acting like a normal
folder.
All that does is fix the Font folder.

I have a few problem getting some of my installed fonts to appear in
the drop down menus of the Display Properties, Appearance, Advanced
feature. I haven't tried the TweakUI yet, but I have noticed that
all the fonts that don't appear have a "RA" attribute.
I was just wondering if there is a "key" for the attribute codes?
