Umm NO. The title of this thread, in case your are COMPLETELY
illiterate is ""REFORMATTING a hard drive". Nowhere is "converting"
even mentioned.

You are a total jerk.

OP's original post:

I run WinXP Home and have a external hard drive with FAT32 format .I
wish to
change this to NTFS: how do I do this? Suggestions/ help please.

then he could do either couldn't he?

He could also remove that hard drive and hammer a 5" nail through it and
then go out and purchase a new hard drive. There's all sorts of things he
could do you Wintard. He could also go out and purchase a new computer.

To suggest that reformatting his hard drive just to get from FAT32 to
NTFS when Windoze provides a tool to do it non-destructively is an
idiotic suggestion. But, you still don't seem to get it or have too much
ego to admit that your suggestion was just plain stupid.

In addition: To change from FAT32 to NTFS on an external drive is not
a good idea. This has been my experience.

You are correct. The whole idea of having an external drive is to afford
portability. Having it remain as FAT32 allows one to use it on other
operating systems such as Linux and OSX. Going with a proprietary format
like NTFS limits its use to Windoze XP/2000.
