Your running OE and I imagine IE which require the most patching, then
you complain....

I updated with SP2 and have turn'd off my updates I don't get them I
don't care for the sunrises involved..

The only update I've installed was for the WMF problem and that was
third party.

I don't hat the WGA problems I'm reading here, and my machine is clean
- not saying I don't have a rootkit, but I depend upon my modem lights
to let me know of odd behavior.

I don't update and I don't have problems, plain and simple.
I use Opera browser and Agent newsreader, I'm behind an ADSL modem so
ZoneAlarm is mostly installed to tell me what want's out. Nod32 is my
virus protector that I never notice, only time I've seen it in action
