my XP home edition to run Office as before?

When you install a program to XP the program adds many entries to XP's
registry, without these entries your programs will not run.
If this backup CD is a backup of the the directories that were under
"Program files" then the possibility of having these programs actually
function is very low if not non-existant.
You need to get the install CDs for your software.
