Re: Black Tuesday Update Mess

On Monday 17 July 2006 02:07 pm, antioch had this to say in
microsoft.public.windowsxp.general:

Hello All
I don't call update Tuesday 'Black Tuesday' for nothing.
Seven hours ago I decided that I had better download the latest offerings
from MS
KB's, 914388, 916595, & 917159
Before doing so I check with the web based MS Update discussion group,
there being no update newsgroup.
My God, I could not believe the problems that some were having, but nearly
all of these seemed to generate around Servers etc.
Being not on a server, I decided to go ahead.
That took care of the first couple of hours.
I then download the three, one at a time, rebooted and used the computer
to see if there were adverse effects for 15 to 30 minutes after each boot.
5 hours later I was pretty pleased with myself - I had got away with the
downloads.

Wow, now that is an endorsement of this toy operating system if I ever heard
one! 5 hours of time wasted to get the latest updates. Now isn't that an
efficient and convenient way to run ones computer. Sorry, but I snipped the
rest of your sad experiences. It was just getting too painful to read. :-)
