Re: MICROSOFT PRIVATE FOLDER

That is the way most encryption works. If you copy data out of the encrypted
folder/container/media to a non-encypted folder/container/media then it is
saved in a decrypted form. You have to have the appropriate credentials to
copy it. With some encryption schemes you could encrypt the copy of the data
as well. With Private Folder apparantly you can't. It only encypts what is
in the folder. I think the name of the product would be a clue that this is
the way it works. Inside the Private Folder your data is private. Outside
it, it is not.

The so-called "Private Folder" is a trojan horse from Microsoft
attempting to setup stupid people to put them in harm's way by
misleading them into thinking they have a secure folder. Most people
don't read the "fine print" but the documents that come with the
download clearly state if the phoney secured folder is copied to
another disk or media the data can be read by anybody.

It's still available by a direct link to the download.

I gather this claims to "hide" the imformation from the hard drive? Does
this employ root kit technology then?
