Re: Access Denied for Folder

Thanks Malke.
I used "lock my folder 1.2.3"
As suggested I went in safe mode but there is no security tab visible in
properties. I don't know whether my windows is corrupted or there is some
other problem?

One of my folder in "F" partition was locked through one locking
programme. Now I am unable to open that folder inspite of the fact that
I uninstalled that programme. Everytime I click on that folder I
receive a message that "access denied".
I also tried in safe mode but still access denied. I went through
microsoft knowlegde base article saying to change security in safe mode
BUT NO SECURITY BUTTON PRESENT IN PROPERTIES OF THAT FOLDER EVEN IN
SAFE MODE. I AM WONDERING WHY THAT BUTTON OR DIALOGUE IS NOT PRESENT
WHEN IT SHOULD BE.

I AM USING WIN XP HOME EDITION WITH SP2 AND ALL RECENT UPDATES.
ANY SUGGESTIONS WILL BE HIGHLY APPRECIATED.

Since you used third-party software to lock your files, you need to contact
them for help with their product. Perhaps you had to unlock your files
before uninstalling the program. There is no way for me to know, just as
there is no way for me to know the method with which the program "locks"
the files.

In order to get the Security Tab, the drive must be NTFS. If the drive is
formatted FAT32, there aren't any ownership issues so the access denied
must be coming from the program. An alternative - if the files are *not*
encrypted - is to boot the machine with Knoppix (a Linux distro that runs
from cd). Linux will not honor Windows permissions and the files can be
copied. However, if they are encrypted that won't do you any good.

So really your next step is to contact the program's tech support to see
what can be done.
