Re: Imaging Drivers Slowing Explore/My Computer & Net Explorer Address

Try this.

Go to your folders where you have photo's and video's stored (sub folders
included). Switch from "thumbnail" view to either "list" or "detail" view.
Close explorer. Then try again, including typing in a web address in the
address bar.

Get back here and let us know if things have improved a bit.

I got my HP PC a couple of years ago, before the Service Pack 2. I bought
a
scanner for my computer and only after installing it, noticed a weird
problem. Whenever I opened Windows Explore, it took WAY too long to
populate
the Drives and Folders list. Whereas it had been taking about 5 seconds
it
suddenly was taking 5 minutes. Also if I clicked on My Computer, instead
of
bringing up the stuff on My Computer automatically in the Right Hand
window,
it would bring up a flashlight which would search and search and search
for
about 5 minutes before "finding" the files and drives. The other odd
thing
that happened is whenever I was browising the internet, if I typed a web
address directly into the address bar of Explorer, it would do the same
thing, taking 5 minutes to finally open the address, but if I clicked a
LINK,
it would go there immediately as usual.

I spent countless hours on the phone with HP's "pro-level" programmers and
they couldn't help me. All they could tell me was what I already knew -
that
it had something to do with a conflict with the Scanner Drivers. We
verified
this by me trying 3 different brands of scanners and using them in
different
programs once installed, even uninstalling the software for them, but
leavin
the drivers. If the drivers were active, the problem exist. When the
driver's were removed, the problem went away. Finally I realized I just
would not be able to use a scanner with my computer which sucked 'cause
that
wasn't what I paid for, but what can you do?!?! (Besides buy a Mac next
time.
hehe)

So why am I writing this now? Because here we are a couple of years
later,
post Service Pack 2. And I just bought a new Canon Camcorder. I took
some
video and plugged it into my computer via Firewire and captured the video
into my computer with no problem. BUT then I went to Explore to find a
file
and guess what?!?!? Yep, it did that same thing my computer had done with
the
scanner drivers years ago - took like 5 minutes+ to find the files and
drives. Then I opened Internet Explorer and typed a Web Address directly
into the address line and of course it did the same thing it had done
before
- took 5+ minutes to go to the address, but not even a second if I clicked
on
a link within a web page.

I'm convinced computers were invented by Satan - like the apple on the
tree
it seems that they make our lives easier, but really they become the
source
of many problems! :-) Anyway, I hope someone out there has some advice,
cause I'm about fed up and I unfortunately don't have the money to go out
and
buy a MAC or a new PC....

Thanks in advance!
frodo
