Windows Explorer Refresh Problems

When using Windows Explorer it sometimes (It comes and goes for no apparent reason) fails to refresh after changes have been made to a file. For instance after renaming a file and pressing enter, the file will show its original filename before I renamed it. Manually refreshing (F5) causes it to update, so its renaming the file; its just not updating. Attempting to use these files that have been modified before refreshing predictably enough gives an error that the file cannot be found. It doesnt update at all: Delete a file and the icon stays; move it the same thing.
Any suggestions on how to fix this?
Thanks in advance.
I am using Windows XP SP2 on a seagate 250GB SATA Hard Drive
