Try to slow down the sensitivity to your mouse and/or pad. This is common
for laptops. Also disable X-Mouse if this applies in your case as well.

I have an Advent 5490 laptop running XP Home with SP2. Can anyone suggest
why menu options have suddenly started appearing at random in any windows I
have open (especially Internet Explorer)? As soon as I select something
with the mouse, an irrelevant drop-down menu option appears, generally from
File on the menu bar or the right click options. Despite clicking away from
it, the menu immediately comes back again, sometimes a different one. This
is particularly annoying as of course the menu box becomes the 'active'
part of the screen, stops the flashing cursor and prevents text being input
using the keyboard.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled the driver for my USB Logitech wheel
mouse to no avail.
