Hi,
Make sure you have your Product Key and installation CD handy. Backup all critical data to removable media. Then shut down and replace the hardware. Boot the system with the CD and start setup (do not hit 'r' to repair). When you get to the point to choose the installation location, you should be given an opportunity to choose to repair an existing installation. This is what you want to do. Normally, this repair installation should keep the existing files, programs, and settings intact, but there are those circumstances where it won't work. This is where you will be glad you backed up your data first, as you will then need to format and reinstall cleanly. When completed, go straight to Windows Update and get yourself re-updated as the repair install will bring your installation back to a point in time matching the media release.
