Click Start, Run and enter REGEDIT Go to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion
Look in the right pane for DevicePath. It should read "%SystemRoot%\inf", without the quotes. If not, double click it and edit it appropriately.

Hello,.
since 2 weeks, when I have to install new hardware or new network
protocole Windows XP don't knows were to search the .inf file.
In the case of new hardware I can easily give XP the path. But in the
case of network configuration to add protocle, client, service XP
returns an error and XP don't ask to give a path.
thx.
