I just formatted and reinstalled XP Pro on a Pavilion a1450n computer.
Have SP2, earliest version but can't connect to get updates. Device
manager says my network card is working correctly. Device manager says
the network card is a "1394 Net Adapter." But when I do a "ipconfig"
at command prompt I get "Windows IP Configuration", no IP at all. I
"ping 127.0.0.1" and everything is fine. I do a ipconfig release and
renew, same thing, "Windows IP Configuration". No router, directly
into Sprint modem. The techs at Sprint say they can't help until I get
an IP from "ipconfig." Anyone have any idea what is going on?
I am reinstalling from Vista Beta 2 5384 and it recognized this card
and connected with no problems at all. Thanks for any help.
The 1394 Net Adapter is not your ethernet card. It is firewire and
unless you know you are connecting to the Internet using it, this
explains why you can't get online. You need to install all the drivers
for your computer - motherboard chipset, ethernet network adapter,
video, audio, etc. Get the drivers from HP for your specific model
Pavilion.
