The problem is probably caused by having both Norton Internet Security
and Norton Systemworks installed. Both those programs are huge resource
drains. Having both of them running will bring the fastest computer to
its virtual knees.

I personally don't recommend Norton products, but if you want to use
them then choose either NIS or Systemworks, not both.
