Ramesh,
I get the same error message even if I go to File/New... So it's apparently
not the menu handlers but something else, more profound. I'll try to
uninstall the latest Windows update and see what happens.

All this happened after I installed the latest (automatic) windows update
a
few days ago but I don't know if it's related. I haven't changed anything
else on the computer that has been running smoothly for a long time now
except that it once in a while loses time setting. Yesterday it thought it
was year 18 465, but a restart fixed that.
