Driver Woes

I have encountered problems with my HP 5100c Scanner. In the course of probing to discover what the problem(s) might be, I found 2 entries under [Systems] (Device Manager) that appear to be irregularities. I don’t understand from drivers, so this is probably a long shot.

1. PCMCIA adapters
{ ! } Cirrus Logic PCIC Compatible PCMCIA Controller
“This device cannot start. (Code 10)

2. SCSI/RAID Controller
{ ! } SCSI/RAID Host Controller

I accessed the Hardware Update Wizard and tried to Update each of them from my installation CD, but was not successful.

1. […] “…could not find a better match than the software you currently have installed”

2. “Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware because a previous instance of the device driver is still in memory (Code 38)

Given that I am already over my head at this point when it comes to Systems in XP, can anyone suggest what buttons to push to reinstate these 2 devices? My sense is that I should uninstall and reinstall them, but I am nervous about tinkering with anything in this area.
