PS: I would still download the latest version of the power toy
called Tweak
UI. Amoung many outstanding attirbutes, it has a few features for the
slideshow such as easlily setting the speed at which the slides
change.

Glad that seems to have helped. I rarely have to do anything very
fancy
with images except to caption photos (about 200 a week), or perhaps
draw a
red arrow or two, so I use the image editor included with XP called
"Paint" (written by Corel?).

Corel seems to have a history of screwing up good software. I have
not used
any Corel software since they bought out WordPerfect-- what a fiasco
for us
WP fans. LOL I have learned to limp along with MS Word but I truly
miss the "Reveal Codes" and other features in WP 6.0 for DOS. It
was lightning fast
and easy to troubleshoot.

Happy Computing!!

Thank you. This is the suggestion that I find suits me best.
Because I use
the Classic view in my XP folders (and thus do not have the common
tasks
with "view as slideshow" visible), I find that just right clicking
on an
image and opening with Windows Picture and Fax viewer works fine
for my
purposes. and the icon at the bottom opens the image into my
default PSP
when I want to edit it.

Yes PSP has now been acquired by Corel. Great inexpensive software,
unless
Corel messes it up. What do you use?

Jeff:

I have not used PaintShop Pro and Google spun out a million
paintshop
blah
blah blah. Is that the Corel software?

I use a different image editor but I have found Windows Picture and
Fax
Viewer (WPFV) to be much faster for browsing images and then when I
encounter
an image I want to work on, one of the buttons on the toolbar at
the
bottom
of the WPFV window opens the image into the image editor I have
selected as
default.

I believe Windows Picture and Fax Viewer is an integral part of XP
but I do
not know where it resides. If you would like to make it the
default
viewer (browser) for any particular image file type, just right
click
any image icon
and choose "Properties". In the Properties dialog box, click the
"Change"
button to the right of "Opens With...". Choose Windows Picture and
Fax
Viewer. This would have to be repeated for .JPG, .BMP, etc.

Explore the toolbar along the bottom. You can click to view images
in any
given file as a slide show or manually browse images with the mouse
or cursor
keys.

There is a button on the toolbar at the bottom of the WPFV window
which will
open the image into the image editor you have chosen as default.

One word of caution: I would not use WPFV for any manipulation of
the
image, i.e. "rotate"-- there could be irretrievable, unintended
consequences.

If you do NOT want to make WPFV your default image browser, you can
still
open it for use as a slideshow generator by right-clicking any
image
and
choosing 'Open With".

Post again if you have any further questions.

Thank you Mark.

I prefer to use PaintShop Pro as the default image viewer because
I
use it
work on the images. Does Window Picture and Fax exist as a
separate
program
I can call up for slide shows when I wish to? I cannot find it as
a
separate application on my drive.

Hi Jeff:

If your default image viewer is Window Picture and Fax, you
should
be
able
to just double-click the image you want to view and then click
the
icon at
the bottom of the screen that looks like a tiny projector screen.
You might
also want to explore the rest of the bottons on this tool bar.
In
addition,
Tweak UI, a free MS utility, has many cool, hassle-free ways to
adjust what Windows does with images and many other objects:

I think there is a graphic program in XP Home that lets you view

someone
point me in the right direction?
