Update Havoc

Once again it appears that MS is creating probs all round with the latest
batch of updates.
I have been reading through the windows.update and I can see from that there
are problems with KB917344(MS06-230.
I have this one on current offer.
What is confusing is the knowledge base refers back to KB916281, which
appears to have been on offer a few days ago, with a suggestion that this is
installed along with KB917344.
But I have not had the offer of 916281 in the last few days.
916281 is also causing probs for some.
So, is 917344 and patch/fix for the 916281 or what.
This whole update thing seems to get worse and worse.
OR in my case, is MS getting its own back because I keep blocking that
barsteward WGA from phoning home??
Linux is looking prettier and prettier after each Mad Tuesday.
