Am regularly receiving now the following message, eg:

Name of application, with the comment "Instruction at "0x030k36d"
referenced
memory at "0x00000154." The memory could not be "read." Click on OK
to
terminate the program. Cancel to debug the program." The numbers in
quotes
vary of course.

This usually occurs when closing a program. I usually just terminate
the
program as wouldn't know what to do with the debug information. Any
ideas on
what's causing this message, please, and what to do to rectify the
problem would be gratefully appreciated.

It's fine to suggest the OP run a memory test, but Memtest86 has been
deprecated years ago since the creator passed the project onto others.
Instead, use Memtest86+ from www.memtest.org.
