I have just clean reinstalled XP Home, (my first attempt at
this procedure) but I did read up whatever I could about it

I was a bit surprised however that one task I thought I
would have to do didn't eventuate, is this right? I have
had a new Modem, Network Card and DVD burner installed on
this machine and thought I would have to install the
specific drivers from these components software. But it
didn't happen, so I assume everything will work O.K. As I
hope to sell this machine now, I want to make sure alls
well. The Modem looks like a generic driver has been
installed but I can't test the Modem out as I don't really
want to set up an online connection with this machine
anymore. The Network card didn't ask for anything just
took the typical install and the new DVD burner just seems
to be working O.K.
In fact I thought I would spend ages having to put on all
the drivers for everything on the PC. So the whole
operation was not so traumatic as I was expecting.
Is this what usually happens with XP reinstall?
TIA

If you're selling the machine and providing all the original
manufacturer's CDs et al, then it's unimportant, IMO. As long as
the user has all the CDs that belong with it, it's up to him to
get it how he wants it. XP's drivers are usually OK, but will be
missing some of the bells & whistles that often come with a
retail purchase, or the OEM's little add-ons for that brand.
But, if you're keeping any of the OEM CDs , especially the
operating system and its drivers, then it's a pirating situation
and you need to wipe the disk anyway to prevent it. Otherwise,
first time he has a problem, he'll find out how you schmucked
him. And, ...
IMO, anyway,
