I found the setting in the bios and everything works fine now. I would
never have thought to look under "serial port". Thanks for your help.

You really should only use the newsgroup as it helps everyone who has a
similar problem. The com ports will be listed somewhere within the bios. I
can't say where for sure as they are all different. It might be under
chipset or advanced settings. It might be under pci config. You would just
have to go in and look at all entries.

On one of my computers with an AMI Bios, com ports are listed under
'Onboard Devices Config'. They are listed 'Serial Port 1' and 'Serial Port
2'. They are not listed as COM ports but that is what they are. Thats what
you should look for, 'Serial Ports'. I have a AWARD bios in another
computer but it runs a server so can't reboot it.

Could you tell me where I go once I am in the bios to do this? I looked
all around under the different bios categories and I didn't see anything
dealing with the com ports. What heading would this typically be under?
It is an Award bios if that helps any.

If only one com is showing in device manager you need to go into the
bios and make sure both are running.

Change your mouse to com 2. Go into Bios and make sure com ports are
both open.

FWIW COM 1 uses the same irq that COM 3 does
