Thanks for the reply.
I cannot get into safe mode as I keep getting the message that the system
could not log me on, and using enter does not work.
Using Ctrl-Alt-Del does not get any result.
Trying to boot into the command prompt gets the same result as everything
else.
I have the bootup sequence set to boot from the CD but there is a failure
notice every time I try that so.
So, in short, nothing that a try will get me past those screens.
Any further thoughts please people?

hey joe,
The only way to fix ur problem is as mentioned earlier getinto safe mode
and
without typing anything in the Password field of Administrator hit enter
and
have a try to boot into desktop. (This Admininstrator password is the one
which must have been given at the time of installation of the OS in this
computer )
An alternative way would be to boot with the OS CD and to getinto recovery
console.
Once you are in recovery console and in the prompt type "lusrmsgr.msc" .
Once the window of Local Users and Groups pops up, choose users in the
left
pane of the window, after which you would see the "Administrator" account
in
the right pane of the window.
Do a right click and hit the first option "Set the password", thereby
resetting the password.
If u r not able to get into recovery console for some reason, try the
option
of "Boot using the command prompt" in Windows advanced boot options (F8)
and
try the same steps.
Gud luck.

I have been helping one of our senior members here and have run intocame
big
trouble.
At his request I went into User Accounts and cleared the use the
welcome
screen box. I then rebooted the computer to see if it worked OK, a box
up asking for a password, I clicked on OK and the windows loaded upa
OK.
I went into control userpasswords2 and cleared the box ' users must
enter
username and password to use this computer' clicked Apply/OK andthis
rebooted
Now a box comes up with Administrator as the Username and as we don't
know
of any password ever being used no matter what we do we cannot get
past
box that tells up that login failed.
Short of using a big hammer is there any way that we can get into this
computer please?

You missed one little step when running "control userpasswords2":
You did not highlight the account to be used for the automatic
logon. "Administrator" happened to be highlighted, so "Administrator"
is what you get! Here are a couple of ways out of your predicament:
- Try a blank password for "Administrator".I did without success.
- When challenged for a password, press Ctrl+Alt+Del twice inHe doesn't know his normal logon he just starts the computer.
succession, then specify your normal logon account and password.
I will try that next, which will be in the morning as it's 11pm here now.
It could be "Joe", or "User", or whatever account you created before.I tried with user, owner and some other name but always with the same
result.
- Press F8 several times during the early boot phase, boot into SafeI tried that but even trying to get into Safe Mode I got the same screen
Mode, then repeate the "control userpasswords2" process.
asking for the password.
Many thanks for your reply.
