Re: PS2/USB mouse

No, with the adaptor it works normally.
I just want to tidy the system up.

That's normal since the adaptor make the USB mouse PS2 compatible.
Do you get the error when using the adaptor?

This is a little strange.
If I use the USB mouse via the adaptor in the PS2 port(as normal) the
mouse
is listed as PS2 compatible mouse.
If I start without any mouse and then plug in the USB mouse into a USB
port
the mouse is then listed as a USB mouse. The same listing is given if I
start
up with the USB mouse in a USB port.

Go into Device Manager and see if a PS2 mouse is listed along with the
USB
mouse. If it is then un-install the PS2 mouse entry.

You can do this by choosing: Start/Administrative tools/Computer
Management.
Then in the left pane click on Device Management, in the right pane click
on
the + symbol next to the 'Mice and other pointing device entries', you
should see a listing for the PS2 mouse, right click on the PS2 mouse
entry
and choose un-install.

Apologies, I have, unwittingly, not told you the complete story.
I have been using the system with a USB mouse plugged into an adapter
which
is plugged into the PS2 port.

To answer your question, on the first screen listing the drives info
etc.

This time I pressed any key to continue and the system booted up
normally.

I then plugged the USB mouse into a USB port and the system found the
new
hardware and linstalled it, allowing me to carry on.
I then tried the USB mouse plugged in for the startup and although I
still
have the "PS2" message I can carry on by just hitting any key.
It's a nuisance and I would like to get rid of this interruption.(Can't
think why I didn't try this metod previously)

I changed from a PS2 to USB mouse, had to try several USB ports before
the
system recognized the mouse. I did not however get an error related to
the
PS2 mouse. I have a Gigabyte and not a Chaintech so I can't help you
on
the
BIOS issue. You could try removing the PS2 mouse driver and see if
windows
detects the USB mouse when you reboot.

Question: is the error reported while the POST test is displayed or
during
the actual Windows boot process?

I can't find anything there, that's why I tried to contact Chaintech.

Where should I look, specifically.

Did you check the BIOS for mouse options?

I have a Chaintech Ct-9EJL1 mother board and have asked Chaintech
for
help
but they do not respond.

My problem is that when my PC was first setup, a PS2 mouse was
installed.

I want to use a USB mouse but the PC stalls on startup with a
message
that
the PS2 mouse cannot be found and freezes.

Any ideas of a solution?
