No, with the adaptor it works normally.

This is a little strange.
If I use the USB mouse via the adaptor in the PS2 port(as normal) the
mouse
is listed as PS2 compatible mouse.
If I start without any mouse and then plug in the USB mouse into a USB

the mouse is then listed as a USB mouse. The same listing is given if I

Apologies, I have, unwittingly, not told you the complete story.
I have been using the system with a USB mouse plugged into an adapter
which
is plugged into the PS2 port.

To answer your question, on the first screen listing the drives info
etc.

This time I pressed any key to continue and the system booted up
normally.

I then plugged the USB mouse into a USB port and the system found the
new
hardware and linstalled it, allowing me to carry on.
I then tried the USB mouse plugged in for the startup and although I
still
have the "PS2" message I can carry on by just hitting any key.
It's a nuisance and I would like to get rid of this interruption.(Can't
think why I didn't try this metod previously)

I have a Chaintech Ct-9EJL1 mother board and have asked Chaintech

help
but they do not respond.

My problem is that when my PC was first setup, a PS2 mouse was
installed.

I want to use a USB mouse but the PC stalls on startup with a
message
that
the PS2 mouse cannot be found and freezes.

Any ideas of a solution?
