If you are going to reformat and reinstall Windows, yes, you will lose
*everything* on your drive. Why are you going to do this? Are you sure you
need to? If you have a problem, post it here. It's likely that someone can
help you and a reformat won't be necessary.

I have a LOT of important
mp3's, movies,programs and documents on my comp i must save.I know i
need blank cd's to save my mp3's,

Burning them to CDs is one way to do it. It's a good way, but certainly not
the only way. Other alternatives include removable hard drives, thumb
drives, etc. Which is best for you depends on how much you have to save.

but isnt there a way to save like
100 songs on a cd?

How many files you can fit on a CD depends on how large the files are, but
typically, you should be able to fit something around 200 MP3 songs on one
CD.

how do i do that?

You either use Windows built-in CD burning program, or a third-party CD
burning program, such as Nero.

And what do i need to save my
movies, programs and documents so that i can transfer them back onto my
computer when it is cleaned

With documents, you do exactly the same thing as with the MP3s. You can burn
to a CD, or put them on any other external device. Movies are the same, but
movies tend to be much bigger, and if a movie is bigger than a CD, you need
another solution. How big are the movie files, and how many MB (or GB) do
you have in total to save?

Programs are another issue You can move data files, but not programs. All
installed programs (except for a very occasional tiny one) have many entries
referring to them in the registry and elsewhere. If you do a new
installation, all those entries are lost and a moved program won't work.

So programs need to be restored from their original media.

But your question strongly suggests that you have no backup procedure in
place.Almost everyone should be backing up regularly, not just now when you
are about to reformat and reinstall. It is always possible that a hard drive
crash, user error, nearby lightning strike, virus attack, even theft of the
computer, can cause the loss of everything on your drive. As has often been
said, it's not a matter of whether you will have such a problem, but when.
