it get to the log on screen(this is new) as it booted to the desktop
before.
when i click on the user name (this is in safe mode also and with either
admin or user name) it starts to load user the personal settings and the
within 1sec. it goes to logging off..........any ideas?
There is a certain type of spyware that can cause this symptom, try this:
1. boot using your XP CD
2. Enter recovery console
3. at the command prompt go to c:\windows\system32
4. type: copy userinit.exe wsaupdater.exe
5. exit and reboot. Login
6. DON"T STOP - run regedit
7. Find the Userinit key in:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Windows NT\Current
Version\Winlogon 8. Modify the entry: C:\WINDOWS\System32\wsaupdater.exe
so that it reads C:\Windows\System32\userinit.exe
