Re: Problems logging on in safe mode

Hello Bob,

Your response doesn't really answer the question, does it?

I have had free reign in installing programs (I am the Executive
Director)--this program has been reviewed and found to be helpful in
maintaining a PC. It is actually an upgrade I had from a previously installed
version.

I have had my laptop for about three years and have had trouble free use
through my choices in software and maintanence.

Again--can't anyone tell me how to log on in Safe Mode?

Are you sure the company's system administrator wants you installing a
program like that on the PC?

Hello Bob,

I can log in under safe mode with networking but that does not allow me to
install Registry Mechanic 5.2. Windows Explorer crashes when I try to do so
in Safe Mode with networking. Their tech support advised me to log on in Safe
mode, which Windows XP Professional does not allow me to do. It asks me for a
password--the only password ever used on this computer is my network password
but it doesn't accept it.

I don't understand why I can log in with Safe Mode with networking but
cannot log in with safe mode. Is there any fix to this short of creating a
local administrator account?

So it IS a domain PC, while you have administrative rights you aren't
the LOCAL administrator. No network, no authentication. Why can't you
install in safe mode with networking? Your other option (depending on
the domain security) is to create a LOCAL administrator account and
login on that.

Hi Bob,

The same problem occurs whether or not I am connected to the network. I
have no problems booting up regularly whether on network or off. I needed to
be in safe mode to install some software.

Perhaps the PC is on a domain?

When I try to log on in safe mode I am asked for my password. I then get the
error message: "The system could not log on. Make sure your User name etc."

I have administrator rights to this computer. I can log on with no problem
in Safe Mode with networking.

Any fixes?
