My IE is slowing down since firewall

I am noticing a tremendous slowing of my IE browser since the installation
of the ZoneAlarm firewall. It has worsened to the point that using the
Internet for any purpose is impossible. Is this a common occurrence? Do I
have to get rid of this firewall in order to use the Net?
