XP passwords becoming suddenly invalid

Hi,

I'm using XP Pro SP2 (US) and three users are configured, plus one 'guest'
access without password. Only one of the three users has administrator
rights. I use to always keep the PC up and running, so between two reboots
there are very frequent login/logoff for each user, and obviously it happens
often that two or three users are logged simultaneously (using the "switch
user" or win-L function).

For an unknown reason it happens that one reaches a situation where suddenly
none of the password works, and even stranger : XP asks for a password for
the 'guest' account, while it does not have any. So at this point it is
impossible to login, the only solution is to reboot. While being "locked"
the PC still works OK: I tried to access (remotely) to a server running
under the administrator session and it was OK. At next reboot everything
works fine again.

After several occurrences I could note the following common points:
- The administrator session is always logged.
- The session of a particular user is always logged.
- Letting the XP welcome screen going into screen saver mode, at wake up
time one can see for half a second the screen background of the session of
the "particular user" above. This makes me think that the problem is maybe
linked to the session of this user (the way it is configured ? the way it is
switched ?).

Any idea is welcome...
Thanks a lot.
