Windows XP Activation-How to Check

Tech-Archive recommends: Fix windows errors by optimizing your registry

Is there an easy way that I can find out if Windows has been activated?

I had to reload my PC last night and when I went to MS website (via the
internet not modem) to do updates, it tried to validate my copy of XP and said
that it was unable to do so due to an unknown error. When I tried it today,
it did not try to validate my copy of Windows and it allowed me to download 41
updates!

My question is how can I find out if my copy is valid or not? Registry?

Thanks to all who reply!
