First, try downloading & running ie6setup.exe. If the setup won't allow
you to install Internet Explorer you will need to create a key in the
registry before setup allows the installation.
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/ie6/downloads/critical/ie6sp1/default.mspx
Follow these steps to allow the ie6setup.exe to run correctly.
* Open Regedit, navigate to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Active Setup\Installed
Components\{44BBA840-CC51-11CF-AAFA-00AA00B6015C}
* Right-click in the open area of
'{89820200-ECBD-11cf-8B85-00AA005B4383}', select 'New', click 'DWORD
Value', type IsInstalled
* Double-click IsInstalled, Value should be 0
Note: If the 'IsInstalled' key is already in registry , change value to 0
* Exit Regedit
* click to download & install IE6:

Short of reformating hard drive completly any suggestions from the
Microsoft
Developers working on the IE7 Beta version?
I have removed IE7 using Add/Remove
I have used System Restore to a point before it was downloaded.
I ran sfc and disk check
I've run Adaware Personal, Spybot, NIS 2006 and Registry Mechanic.
I was going to remove and re-install SP2, but somenody else has reported
that this will not fix the problem either.
