I think that it is for backward compatibility for stuff with Office 97.
Mine is pretty much empty.

However there are common Office settings in
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\10.0 et cetera.

This will save a file called WDSettings.reg on your Desktop.

Open the Registry Editor...
Start | Run | Type: regedit | Click OK |
Navigate to the appropriate key >>
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\10.0

Right click on the 10.0 (or whatever version) folder in the left hand pane.
Select Export.
Click on Desktop in the left hand pane (Places Bar).
Type a name in the File name box, like WDSettings.
Click the Save button.
Close the Registry Editor.

You can now send WDSettings.reg to the other machine.

I exported my HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\10.0 key to the
Desktop and it was 213 KB, that will fit on a floppy disk.

However you get WDSettings.reg to the other machine, when you do either
right click WDSettings.reg and select Merge or double click WDSettings.reg
and click YES to the prompt.
