I downloaded some new game related software, safe stuff. I tried
accessing the online game but to no avail. I restarted my computer
hoping that this would clear up the issue, however, i still cannot
access the game. But wait, there's more! My sound is gone, no sound
whatsoever. I click on the volume control and it says there are no
active mixer devices available. What does this mean, why is there no
sound, and how can i fix this problem as soon as possible?

You might get a specific answer about sound from an MVP so wait for a bit.
But I would suggest trying to uninstall what you downloaded (control panel).
If that doesn't work, try going back to a system restore point before you
downloaded the software (Start - help & support - undo changes.)
