OK, this was just strange.
Dell 4500 w/ XP Pro was off. I turned it on. I then left it been there
with the login screen. I logged in remotely using Remote Deskop
Connection from a Mac. It took my name and password. So far, nothing
unusual. But when I logged in...
I got a "new" windows xp desktop. The default icons (trash and some
preinstalled software) were all that was on my normally very cluttered
desktop. The little 'take a tour' balloon as showing and the XP
Security Center was opened. I didn't do anything here (I was a little
freaked) -- I just quit RDC and came back to the computer.
I logged in at the computer and the same thing happened. I probably
should have started looking around to see what was was what, but I
needed to work, so I restarted.
After restart, everything looks fine. I logged in and my normal desktop
is back.
I have three accounts on the system: me, one other and guest, none of
which should be "new".
I can't find anything about this at ms.com --- anyone else have this
happen?
Thanks,
Jeff
It all depends on the profile you get when logging in.
Next time do this:
- Open a Command Prompt (Start / Run / cmd {OK})
- Type this command:
set user
This will tell you your login name and also the name of
your profile folder. I suspect it is a different folder than
the one you get when logging in directly.
