MS Newsgroups Rules of Conduct
The last time I looked, Microsoft doesn't get to make "rules of
conduct" for usenet.
This and other MS newsgroups reside on a private newsserver. As
such, those posting *to* MS newsgroups are by default agreeing to
these Rules of Conduct. The fact that MS makes these newsgroups
accessible to the Usenet community at large has nothing to do with it.
I read and post from news.individual.net. How do those rules apply to
me?
If Microsoft wants these groups to be private, it can stop propagating
them to nearly every other newsserver in the world. AT&T has done that
with at least two of its groups, which are open only to AT&T
subscribers. As near as I can tell, however, AT&T does not censor. Only
Microsoft seems to think it can treat a normal posting as if it were
part of a flood.
As I keep saying, Microsoft has the ability to remove anything it wants
from its servers, but just because you can do something, doesn't mean
you should and it doesn't make it right.
