When I start xp, a screen come on with my name. I have to
click my name and xp starts. I had this problem before and
someone here said to use start--run--control userpasswords2
and uncheck --User must enter a password. At that time it
worked.
Now the box is checked again and when I uncheck the box and
restart a message comes up saying--Unable to
log you on because of an account restriction. I can click
this, then click my name and xp starts.
When I open the userpassword2 thing there is a box with User
name and group. Below user name is Administrator, Aspnet,
and my name.
Below Group is Administrator, Aspnet, and Administrator.
Last week I did a complete reinstall of xp for other
reasons. Startup work fine. Then Saturday the startup sign
in thing started again. I did a system restore and the
startup worked fine. Now yesterday the sign in started
again.
Is there a way to get rid of the dam sign in thing? I never
have used a password for starting xp and never will. Also in
the box above what is that thing called Aspnet? Thanks
in advance,
Bert
Run control userpasswords2 again.
Put the check mark back in the box next to "Users must enter a
user name and password to use this computer".
In the "Users for this computer" box, click on your user
account so it is highlighted.
Go back and remove the check mark from the box next to "Users
must enter...".
The "Automatically Log On" box should pop up.
Make sure your user account is entered in the User name box.
Click OK twice.
Reboot to see if you get the desired results.
An alternative approach is to download and install TweakUI from
Microsoft:
TweakUI
http://download.microsoft.com/download/f/c/a/fca6767b-9ed9-45a6-b352-839afb2a2679/TweakUiPowertoySetup.exe
After installing TweakUI, go to Start -> Powertoys for Windows
XP and run the program. Click on the + sign next to Logon.
Click on Autologon. In the right hand pane, check "Logon
automatically at startup". Enter your user name. Click OK.
Reboot.
FYI, the reason you're seeing an error message about account
restrictions when you start your computer is due to the fact
that you're running Windows XP Home Edition. When you ran
control userpasswords2 earlier you left the built-in
Administrator account listed in the "Automatically Log On" box.
As for the Aspnet account, take a look here for more info:
