Bill,
* Log in as the administrator
* click Start > Run > type control userpasswords2 and click OK
* uncheck 'Users must enter a user name & password to use this computer',
click OK
* Restart computer
Hopefully, your computer will auto log on at restart. Good Luck.

Thanks for the answer, Drew. Tried your suggestion but got the same log on
problem. Looks like I'll have ti go into the registry and that scares me
to death.
Thanks
Bill

Bill,
Have you tried the 'Last Known Good Configuration' option?
* Start the computer > continually press F8 > Windows Advanced Options
menu should appear
* Using the arrow keys, select 'Last Known Good Configuration' > Enter
* If a Boot menu appears > using the arrow keys, select your OS
(Microsoft Windows XP) > click Enter

My PC refuses to log on (I'm on my notebook now). I have XP SP 2 When I
try to log on it asks for my password I enter the password ,hit enter it
says its getting my settings screen flickers it says loogging off and
then it asks for the password again. I got in on safe mode and tried
some previous restore points . The restoration seemed to be fine but the
log on did the same thing. I suspect MS defender which I installed 2
days ago but I can't get in to uninstall it. Where do I go from here? I
appreciate any help you can give . ( I do have admin priv.) Thanks
Bill
