Bill,
Have you tried the 'Last Known Good Configuration' option?
* Start the computer > continually press F8 > Windows Advanced Options menu
should appear
* Using the arrow keys, select 'Last Known Good Configuration' > Enter
* If a Boot menu appears > using the arrow keys, select your OS (Microsoft
Windows XP) > click Enter

My PC refuses to log on (I'm on my notebook now). I have XP SP 2 When I
try to log on it asks for my password I enter the password ,hit enter it
says its getting my settings screen flickers it says loogging off and then
it asks for the password again. I got in on safe mode and tried some
previous restore points . The restoration seemed to be fine but the log on
did the same thing. I suspect MS defender which I installed 2 days ago but
I can't get in to uninstall it. Where do I go from here? I appreciate any
help you can give . ( I do have admin priv.) Thanks
Bill
