I have no earthly idea how you crosspost using CDO like you are.

If a profile is corrupted, the only fix that I know of is to create a new
one and move the old data.

creating a new profile and copy over my documents etc and delete the
original profile from the PC. All is working as it should...so far. The
desktop icons stay in place even when clicking refresh!!

So, obviously something on my profile itself was a bit screwed...would you
be able to advise what that could be so in future I might be able to fix
it please?
