I cannot update windows xp. I went to the windows update web page, it
checks
for the latest updates for my computer and presents a page saying that I
need
to upgrade components of Windows update in order to use the latest version

Windows update. I clicked on the 'download and install' button. It

the update ok but does not install it. All I get is a window saying that

updates were unable to be successfully installed. no error codes. The

it is trying to install is KB898461. I tried the knowledge database and

e-mail tech support. they had me do different things but nothing helped.
we
e-mail back and forth for about two weeks then no more responses from tech
support. Any ideas?
