Re: No sound

hello I have recently re-installed Windows XP and I have no sound. A
file seems to play but is not working. When I go to the trouble
shooter I go thru it and when I click on 'Volume Control' it displays
this message.

"The are no active mixer devices available. To install mixer devices,
go to Control Panel. click on printers and Othe Hardware, and then
click Add Hardware."

I did this, but it just leeds me back to the same spot. I have tried
to install everything that related to audio on my hardware list, and
still nothing, is there something I am forgetting or something I need
to do.

plz help and thanks in advance

Since I don't know what "everything related to audio on my hardware
list" entails - did you install the correct drivers for your sound
card? You say "a file seems to play" - what file? Any sound file or
just specific ones? Since you've reinstalled Windows, perhaps you need
to install a special player for that file, such as Quicktime.

Never get drivers from Windows Update. Get them from:

1. The device mftr.'s website; OR
2. The motherboard mftr.'s website if hardware is onboard; OR
3. The OEM's website for your specific machine if you have an OEM
computer (HP, Dell, Sony, etc.).

Read the installation instructions on the website where you get the
drivers.

To find out what hardware is in your computer:

1. Read any documentation you got when you bought the computer.
2. If the computer is OEM, go to the OEM's website for your specific
model machine and look at the specs (you'll be there to get the drivers
anyway)
3. Download, install and run a free system inventory program like Belarc
Advisor. The older Aida32 is good for this, too.
