I have never said a generic OEM can be transferred to another computer. I have said that one can upgrade/replace a motherboard and it will still be considered to be the same computer. Carey, Leythos, et al disagree and state that when you update/replace a motherboard, it becomes a different computer and your generic OEM XP is trash.
If you remember, shortly after they changed the Systems Builder page I agreed with your statement and have not claimed such any more. The old agreement was that the Motherboard was the computer,
Not in my EULAs. The word "motherboard" isn't mentioned once.
the new agreement does not indicate Motherboard, but it does name a BUNCH of parts, including the motherboard, that MS considers the "Computer".
That systems builder site is not relevant. I never agreed to it and wasn't required to agree to it when I purchased XP. The EULA was what I agreed to, not some site that can be changed daily. My EULAs say nothing about what a computer is or isn't. I have upgraded my motherboard on one of my computers and it activated no problem, just as it should. You can't change the rules on something after the purchase. Would you be happy if the rules changed that if you upgraded/replaced *anything* on the computer, even a floppy drive, that you would have to go out and buy a new copy of XP??????
