Chkdsk requires a reboot to run correctly.

This should help with chkdsk, schedule Error Checking to run at reboot
and schedule a reboot.

There are two defrag tools in XP.

dfrg.msc is the pretty one that opens from
Start\All Programs\Accessories\System Tools.

defrag.exe is the command line tool that runs from the command prompt.

defrag.exe is the one that you can schedule.

You can also download defrag_all2.vbs.

I have set up overnight scheduling of the 3 utilities using XP Home
Control Panel Task Scheduler. They each start up on schedule but each
one requires user input and dialogue responses to run them, but
naturally the PC is unattended so the programs just sit waiting for the
input/responses to come. I guess there may be command parameters that
can be attached to the start command for each utility to replace the
user input/reponses but am unable to come up with them. Or perhaps I am
way off the mark and it is something altogether different that's
missing. Could anyone assist please? Many Thanks. Bob Deb
