Use Wordpad and open & look at the Windows Update log file
C:\WINNT\WindowsUpdate.log
(note your Windows folder may be at \Windows)
Scroll down all the way. You are looking for entries marked "Error" such as 0x......... (where ...... are numbers)
See KB 902093 How to read the Windowsupdate.log file

When i try and install the updates they fail. It gives me no
explanation as to why. Is there a log file I can look at that will
give me more information as to why? I am assuming it is because that
cryptographic service will not start.
