Re: Windows updates not downloading

Kenxl,

I tried the options you mentioned and I still get the error when I try and
start the Cryptographic Service. Something else must still be wrong with the
system here.

Hope you have more ideas.

Thanks!

Hello Scott,

Thank you for posting.

From your post, my understanding on this issue is: You can not install
updates with error message "Setup Error - Setup could not verify the
integrity of the update.inf. Make sure the Cryptographic Service is
running on this computer". You want to know how to resolve this. If I'm
off
base, please feel free to let me know.

To eliminate the possible cause of virus or spyware, I'd like to suggest
you try the following on-line free virus scanner on your PC first.

Please download and use the following tools to clean any spyware from your
system.

Download and install Microsoft Windows Anti-Spyware (Beta)

Use spy-killer to scan your computer completely.

Run Ad-Aware (free version)

Then would you please follow the steps below:

Part 1:
1. Click on Start> My Computer. Then double-click the Local Disk C:.
2. Within the C: drive browse to Windows\System32
3. Locate and right click on the CatRoot2 folder, select rename
4. Rename the file to something else, usually Catrootold

Part 2:
1. Click on Start> Run.
2. In the Run dialog box run the following 9 commands. After each command
a little window will appear to tell you that the RegisterServer has
succeeded, simply click ok on this.
regsvr32 SOFTPUB.DLL (capitals do not matter) and then click OK.
regsvr32 WINTRUST.DLL click OK.
regsvr32 INITPKI.DLL click OK.
regsvr32 dssenh.dll click OK.
regsvr32 Rsaenh.dll click OK.
regsvr32 gpkcsp.dll click OK.
regsvr32 sccbase.dll click OK.
regsvr32 slbcsp.dll click OK.
regsvr32 Cryptdlg.dll click OK.
3. Now try to start Cryptographic Service and install the update.

I have a XP machine running SP2 and I can't install Windows Updates. I
am
seeing a message in my Event Viewer regarding the Cryptographic Service
and I can't start it. I get this message when trying to install updates
"KB91927 Setup Error - Setup could not verify the integrity of the
update.inf. Make sure the Cryptographic Service is running on this
computer. Error 126: The specified module could not be found."

How can I fix this problem?

Thanks
