Explorer sort order

The files are selected to be sorted alphabetically but (grey column) but
they are not and the files and folders are mixed.

I tried a Google search, but unless I ask the question properly I may never
find the answer!

The PC has just recovered from a bout of ad-ware and virus attack, a few
internet explorer com objects needed re-registering to get activex to work,
so the problem could be associated.
